Humboldt Junior High offers 7th and 8th grade English/Language Arts classes that follow curriculum guidelines established by the St. Paul Public School District. In addition, the curriculum is designed to incorporate specific Minnesota Academic Standards set for 7th and 8th grade students. English classes are also closely aligned with 7th grade American History, and 8th grade Geography to enable students to connect their instruction between these content areas.
Students begin their 7th grade experience by looking inward to examine their personal identity and evaluating how their identity is shaped by the "American Experience" around them. A variety of units are explored including: a basic technology introduction, Memoir, Short Stories, Poetry, Novels, and Critical Essays.
In 8th grade students continue investigating their identity as it relates to "Power and World Justice." Some of the units explored in 8th grade are: Folktales, Drama, the Holocaust, Research, Literature Circles, Reader Response and Persuasive Essays.
