Update on Programming Changes!
January 31, 2008

Dear Parents:

I would like to take this opportunity to update you on the exciting changes that are happening at Humboldt Junior High.

As most of you know, we are currently involved in an innovative program change at our school.  We believe that offering a six-year articulated program for our students and families is beneficial.  The idea of becoming an environmental studies themed college and career technology school emerged from both the staff and community meeting that was held last month.  Since then, we have been working with the District and Humboldt Senior High to make that a reality in the coming school year.

The fact that this program change will lead to more and better opportunities for all of our students is what drove this decision.  Students will be involved in the exploration and foundation stage of this program in the Junior High, carrying it through to the Senior High.  The emphasis of this program will be on environmental studies and career technology exploration.

While the curriculum may be new, both schools are committed to continue the successful programs already in place.  In the Junior High, programs such as AVID, Pre-Advanced Placement, Project Success, Music and Foreign Languages will continue to prepare students for college and beyond.

As with all new beginnings, there is a need to discontinue some programs.  The Montessori Program that has set Humboldt Junior apart from other schools in the past will end.  With the addition of more Pre-AP classes and the increase in AVID sections, there is no longer a need for Montessori.  For current 7th graders in the Montessori program, we will have classes in place to meet all of their requirements and standards.

To assist us with planning, included with this letter is the Intent to Return form; please complete and return it to school with your child by February 8, 2008.  We hope you are as pleased as we are about the exciting direction we are moving as a school and a complex.  If you have any questions or concerns about these changes, please contact me at 651-293-8630.

Sincerely,

Tim Williams
